Blue Canoe Honored for 35 Years of Thoughtful, Responsible Fashion
At Blue Canoe, sustainability has never been a trend — it’s been a way of life from the very beginning. That’s why we are deeply honored to share that Blue Canoe has been recognized by Be The Example, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Livable Planet practices and encouraging more mindful, nature-aligned lifestyles.
In recognition of Blue Canoe’s long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility, founder and owner Laurie Dunlap was presented with the Atlas Award by Priscilla Rich, CEO of Be The Example. The award honors Blue Canoe’s 35-year history of smart, responsible fashion — rooted in organically grown natural fibers and made sustainably in the USA.
A Recognition Rooted in Shared Values
Be The Example’s mission centers on lowering carbon emissions by inspiring individuals and businesses to live and operate in closer alignment with nature. Their work emphasizes that meaningful change doesn’t come from grand gestures alone, but from consistent, thoughtful choices made over time.
That philosophy mirrors Blue Canoe’s own approach. Since 1994, we have focused on doing things the right way — even when it wasn’t the easiest or most popular path. From choosing organically grown cotton and bamboo to keeping our manufacturing entirely in the United States, every decision has been guided by a simple question: Is this better for people and the planet?
The Atlas Award recognizes companies that lead by example, proving that sustainability and long-term success can go hand in hand. We are proud to stand among those who demonstrate that responsible business practices are not only possible, but powerful.
35 Years of Intentional Choices
Blue Canoe was founded with the belief that clothing should support real life — offering comfort, durability, and timeless design without compromising environmental values. Long before “sustainable fashion” became a common phrase, we were already committed to:
-
Using organically grown, plant-based fibers
-
Avoiding petroleum-based synthetics whenever possible
-
Manufacturing locally to reduce transportation impact
-
Supporting fair labor and strong environmental standards
-
Creating clothing designed to last, not be replaced
These choices have shaped every collection we’ve made and every relationship we’ve built with our customers.
Looking Forward with Gratitude
Receiving this recognition from Be The Example is both humbling and energizing. It’s a reminder that quiet consistency matters — and that thoughtful, values-driven work can create ripple effects far beyond what we see day to day.
Most of all, this honor belongs to our community: the customers who choose natural fibers, the workers who bring our designs to life, and everyone who believes that what we wear can reflect how we care for the world around us.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to doing what we’ve always done — designing clothing that feels good, lasts longer, and respects the planet we all share.
Thank you for being part of the Blue Canoe journey.
